Invitae’s test options are designed to support flexibility and the ability to customize orders while making bills manageable. Our panel tests are billed per clinical area, which means a clinician can select a pre-curated test, combine multiple tests, or customize their own test for each patient—including re-requisition within a clinical specialty (e.g., cardiology) in a single billable test.

Orders that include genes in two different clinical areas will require two sample tubes and result in two reports generated by two different teams of clinical experts and two billable tests.

Since Labcorp is an in-network laboratory with most major health plans, we submit insurance claims for all insured patients (including Medicare/Medicaid patients) to the appropriate plan. We anticipate more insured patients’ testing will be covered based on Labcorp’s relationship with these plans, and there will be broader support for patients with Medicare and Medicaid.

For uninsured patients, we have a number of options available to support them based on financial need.

All patients whose out-of-pocket cost exceeds $100 will be contacted before receiving a bill to provide timely information about the program options available to each patient based on their personal financial situation.

With the Financial Assistance Program, our dedicated billing specialists work with each patient to get a comprehensive view of their individual situation and help identify cost-effective and affordable payment options.

Labcorp is an in-network laboratory with most major health plans, so we expect that many more insured patients’ tests will be covered. We're committed to making genetic testing accessible and affordable.

For patients with insurance, including Medicare/Medicaid, all covered costs will be billed to their insurance provider at contracted rates.

For uninsured patients, we have a number of options available to support them. Our Financial Assistance Program helps make genetic testing affordable for your patients. Eligibility criteria are based on household income and personal circumstances, including existing medical expenses. Qualified patients will be offered either a percentage-based discount or a flat rate for their test, whichever results in lower patient responsibility.

Our specialized genetic counselors provide personalized case reviews as needed to maximize insurance payments and help minimize patient responsibility. When a patient’s bill is determined to be over $100, each patient receives an automated call advising them to contact our patient access team. If the patient responsibility is over $250, our billing support team will follow up with a live call to facilitate prior authorization, appeals, and other options to support affordability.

Invitae's family variant testing policy, variants of uncertain significance (VUS) policy and re-requisition programs remain the same.

To support patient care conversations, we provide patient out-of-pocket cost estimates for insurance-billed genetic testing ordered through the Invitae portal.

We’re working to extend this cost estimate capability to other ordering modalities (Electronic Medical Records) soon.

We recognize that ordering decisions may be based on these estimates. Because of this, we’ll honor every patient estimate provided on an order. We’re committed to improving the accuracy of these estimates over time.

Invitae has joined the Labcorp team to further the future of genetics. During the transition, providers, patients and other customers may receive information from Invitae, Labcorp Genetics or both organizations.

We're proud to be in-network with national payers, covering more than 300 million patients in the United States. We can also work with out-of-network insurance providers.

We can bill insurance directly for patients in the United States. Please be prepared to provide the following information with your order:

• Patient's first and last name, phone number and mailing address
• A copy (front and back) of the patient's insurance card
• Updated ICD-10 codes

This information can be entered during the online ordering process when third-party insurance billing is selected as payment.

It’s the healthcare provider’s responsibility to select the appropriate diagnosis code. To identify the appropriate ICD-10 code(s), we recommend reviewing the resources posted on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website.

For insured and Medicare/Medicaid patients, all patient costs will be billed to their insurance provider at contracted rates. Although patients may receive an explanation of benefits (EOB) from Medicare, this is not a bill. Most patients covered by Medicare will not receive a bill for testing. Those who do receive a bill have access to financial assistance and other programs.
