The FAM126A gene encodes the hyccin protein. Hyccin is thought to be involved in the regulation of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate and be an integral part of the plasma membrane. FAM126A function in this pathway is thought to be important for myelination (PMID: 26571211).
