SBF2 is a rare cause of CMT4, and the percentage of cases attributed to pathogenic variants in SBF2 is unknown.

The gene SBF2 gene encodes the SET binding factor 2 protein, also known as MTMR13. This pseudophosphatase is a member of the myotubularin-related protein family. It is thought to be involved in the synthesis, transport, and degradation of myelin components in the Schwann cells of the peripheral nervous system.
