ERLIN2 is a rare cause of hereditary spastic paraplegia, and the percentage of HSP attributed to pathogenic variants identified in ERLIN2 is unknown.

The ERLIN2 gene encodes the endoplasmic reticulum lipid raft-associated 2 protein. This protein is a component of lipid rafts in the ER and the nuclear envelope and functions in the ER-associated protein degradation pathway, which removes misfolded proteins from the ER and targets them for degradation.
