Associated disorders

The BRAF gene is associated with the autosomal dominant Noonan syndrome (MedGen UID: 462320) and cardio-facio-cutaneous (CFC) syndrome (MedGen UID: 266149).

An estimated 75% of CFC syndrome is caused by pathogenic variants identified in the BRAF gene. Fewer than 2% of individuals with Noonan syndrome have a detectable pathogenic variant in the BRAF gene.

The BRAF gene encodes a membrane protein that is a serine/threonine kinase in the RAS/MAPK pathway. BRAF functions by transmitting extracellular signals to the cell nucleus where these signal regulate cell growth, differentiation, maturation, migration and cell death.

Our analysis detects most intragenic deletions and duplications at single exon resolution. However, in rare situations, single-exon copy number events may not be analyzed due to inherent sequence properties or isolated reduction in data quality.
