Because only a small number of ANO3-related dystonia cases have been reported, test sensitivity cannot be predicted. However, findings from one small study suggest that ANO3 may account for approximately 2% of dystonia.

ANO3 encodes anoctamin-3, a transmembrane calcium-activated chloride channel. While little is known about the function of this gene, pathogenic variants of the ANO3 gene lead to defective calcium regulation at the endoplasmic reticulum.
