Detect Hereditary Prostate Cancer

Sponsored, no-charge genetic testing and counseling for hereditary prostate cancer

Importance of germline genetic testing for prostate cancer patients

Targeted medical treatments

Genetic testing of prostate cancer enables targeted medical and surgical treatment options

Detection of other cancers

Testing can direct surveillance for, and early detection of, other DNA repair-related cancers

Family members at risk

Relatives of a patient may be at risk themselves for cancer. They may benefit from testing and early detection

Patient profiles

Patient profile 1: BRCA2 positive

A 60-year-old male with castration-resistant prostate cancer with metastases to bone is found to have a genetic variant in BRCA2, increasing his risk of other cancers.

Patient profile 2: MSH2 positive

A 64-year-old male diagnosed with prostate cancer is revealed to have a genetic variant in MSH2, affecting his medical management.

Increasing access to inherited genetic testing

While genetic testing offers tangible benefits to patients, it’s often underutilized due to cost and accessibility barriers. Invitae is addressing these barriers with the Detect Hereditary Prostate Cancer Program which offers no-charge, sponsored genetic testing and genetic counseling to eligible patients.

Invitae Multi-Cancer Panel

Invitae Common Hereditary Cancers Panel

Genetic counseling

Individuals testing through the Detect Hereditary Prostate Cancer program will be eligible for no-charge, post-test genetic counseling to help them understand their test results. Invitae's genetic counseling services include:

  • Review of the patient's medical and family history
  • Review of the patient's genetic test results and the implications for the patient and their family
  • A detailed consult note and pedigree made available to the patient and clinician after the counseling session

Family follow-up testing

Invitae offers family variant testing for all blood relatives of patients who undergo testing at Invitae and are found to have a pathogenic or likely pathogenic variant. Our family variant testing reports on the variant(s) that was identified in the original family member, as well as any other pathogenic variant(s) found in the full gene.

If your patient tests positive through the Detect Hereditary Prostate Cancer program, all of his or her blood relatives are eligible for family variant testing. If the relatives choose to participate in the Detect Hereditary Prostate Cancer program, then the orders will be processed through the program.
