Head of Corporate Accounting

Invitae is seeking a proven leader to manage the corporate accounting function.  We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, detail-oriented, highly motivated and experienced in operational accounting.  This position is a senior manager level position and will have primary responsibility for the monthly financial close process and consolidation.  A successful candidate will use independence and judgment to recognize and resolve problems within established policies and procedures, prioritize and balance multiple tasks with multiple deadlines and is accountable for the quality, timeliness and accuracy of the work of the team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Hands-on review and supervision of consolidation, general ledger activities, journal entries, transactions and reconciliations
  • Coordinate and lead external financial audits and quarterly reviews
  • Prepare and distribute the monthly management reporting packages
  • Manage the integration of new subsidiaries into the ERP system
  • Manage the Company’s monthly/quarterly debt compliance and related reporting to lenders 
  • Continuously improve the accounting function by identifying opportunities to automate and streamline routine activities to run the organization more effectively as the company scales
  • Design and implement effective internal controls, including documentation of processes and procedures
  • Maintain and manage key financial policies and processes impacting internal and external reporting for general ledger, treasury, accounts payable and fixed asset management and partner with other departments to manage their policies and procedures including inventory, payroll and equity administration
  • Interface with certain functional and program partners to provide accounting, finance, and business support
  • Manage property tax and sales tax audits when applicable

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
  • At least ten years of combined public accounting (Big Four strongly preferred) and industry experience with demonstrated experience in a managerial role required
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience using large ERP systems
  • Microsoft Excel skills with experience manipulating large data sets including vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Able to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
