Senior Software Engineer, Machine Learning


Invitae is a technology driven company whose mission is to use genetic information to empower doctors and patients to make informed medical decisions throughout their life.  Our software engineers work on a variety of projects ranging from innovations in healthcare systems to taming the chaos of biology.  We're constantly improving our tools and technologies to deliver the highest quality actionable information to doctors and patients. About the Team: This is a lead role in a new team called 2050 (as in the year).  We named it 2050 because we want people that can think long term in the healthcare space.  We’re looking for someone comfortable with healthcare data to develop models, algorithms, or suggest a new course of action that enables Invitae to continue its rapid growth.  

What are some examples of work you might do

  • Develop a classifier to predict variant classification (e.g., probability of pathogenicity)
  • Use NLP techniques to “read” papers and gather evidence for variants and genes
  • Optimize our reimbursement strategy

We're looking for engineers with

  • Experience developing predictive models using various types of healthcare data (e.g., genomic/proteomic data, claims, EMRs)
  • Industry experience building machine learning infrastructure to facilitate rapid iterations
  • Proven track record of building and leading a team and delivering projects on time
  • Solid understanding of families of models, feature engineering, feature selection and other practical machine learning issues
  • Good understanding of open source tools and techniques
