DevOps Engineer


Invitae is looking for DevOps Engineers to help support our new and existing web-based applications and high performance computing operations. Our DevOps Engineers work closely with Web Operations, Development and Computing to deploy their code, provide operational support for or new and existing applications and debugging production issues. Candidates should be able to perform functions required to deploy, configure, support and troubleshoot issues with web application environments.


  • Maintenance of our web applications and services
  • Deploying web applications to production environment
  • Monitor, prevent and troubleshoot security related issues
  • Communicate with Computing, DevOps and Dev teams in the event of an incident
  • Understand website and application capacity planning requirements and ensure web applications are deployed in a scalable architecture
  • Ensure proper monitoring is in place for all environments
  • Identify automation opportunities, design and develop solutions to improve operations efficiency
  • Troubleshoot complex issues quickly and effectively
  • Taking feature requests


  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, another science or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of professional experience in DevOps or related field
  • Strong scripting or programming in at least one of the following areas: Python, Java, javascript
  • Knowledge of Django and other Python frameworks a plus
  • Experience with AWS
  • Familiarity with web server software (e.g. Apache, Nginx) 
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g. Puppet, Docker, Ansible)
  • Familiarity with MySQL administration is a plus
  • Familiarity with SSH, DNS is a plus
  • Good experience in internet service deployment, provisioning, and software deployments
  • Affinity for open environments that encourage education, cooperation and teamwork
  • Capable of embracing guidance from team members  
  • Detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication
