ALS
The annual incidence of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is estimated to be 4-8 per 100,000 individuals. An estimated 10% of all cases are hereditary.1,2
Parkinson Disease
Parkinson disease (PD), which is the second most common neurodegenerative condition, has an overall prevalence of 0.3% in the general population, 1-2% in individuals over age 60, and 3-4% in individuals over the age of 80. An estimated 5-10% of individuals with PD have a hereditary form.3
FTD
The annual incidence of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) has been estimated at 3.5 cases per 100,000 individuals aged 45-64 years, and is the most common type of dementia in individuals who are less than 60 years of age. It is estimated that approximately 20% of all people with FTD have a hereditary form of the condition.4,5,6

About the Adult Neurodegenerative Disorders genetic testing program

Program eligibility

Symptomatic individual 18 years or older with clinical diagnosis or suspicion of one of the following conditions:
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Parkinson disease (PD)
  • Frontotemporal dementia (FTD)
  • Alzheimer disease with onset <65 years of age 
  • Hereditary prion disease 
Asymptomatic individual with: 
  • Family history of early (<65 years of age) onset diagnosis of one of the conditions above
  • A family member with a known disease-causing variant in one of the genes included on the panels offered for this program

How to order (US and Canada)

To place a paper-based order, download the paper order form and include it in the specimen box. 

2. Collect a specimen

If a specimen collection kit was not ordered during the online ordering workflow, order a blood, buccal, or saliva collection kit here
Please view specimen and shipping requirements for important information. If you chose to do a paper-based order, include the completed paper order form in the box with the specimen.

3. Receive results

On average, results are available 10-21 days after Invitae receives the specimen. You will receive a notification email once the test results are ready.
